Student Leadership Programs for Aboriginal Students

Through participating in effective Aboriginal student leadership programs, Aboriginal students develop confidence so they can become members of  inter-school, regional and state SRC groups.

Through student leadership, Aboriginal students can learn to negotiate and develop strategies which improve equity, fairness and the quality of school life for all students in NSW government schools.

• Coastal Leadership for Aboriginal Secondary Students (CLASS)
• Participation of Aboriginal Leaders in School (PALS)
• Program of Leadership for Aboriginal Youth (PLAY)
• Queanbeyan South Coast Aboriginal Leaders in Education (QSCALE)
• Student Leadership is for Koori Kids (SLIKK) develops leadership skills for Aboriginal secondary students to become leaders in their schools and participate in their Student Representative Council (SRC).

• Each year two (2) Aboriginal student leaders are selected for NSW Student Representative Council (NSW SRC) membership via an 'expression of interest', statewide.
• The NSW State Student Representative Council Conference is held annually and includes ten (10) Aboriginal student leaders elected by their inter-school SRC.

The Review of Aboriginal Education for the Department of Education and Training recommends that each Region of the Department and TAFE Institute develop an Aboriginal student leadership strategy, through its Aboriginal Education and Training Planning Group, to ensure that Aboriginal student leaders are identified, mentored and supported.

The NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc (AECG) supports Aboriginal Student Leadership programs in all NSW government schools.
