rules and conditions of entry

All teams must comply with the following rules and conditions to be eligible for prizes and awards.

Entering the competition

Only NSW Department of Education and Training schools are eligible to enter the competition.

Principals must approve each team's web site before it is uploaded to the school and competition web sites, to ensure all Departmental policies have been followed.The signed approval is to be retained by the school and may be requested by Departmental Officers.

Teams

Teams must consist of three or more members and have a teacher as an adviser.

Each team member must signed a permission note to enter the competition. The permission note is to be retained by the schoool and may be requested by Departmental Officers.

The teacher is to act as the e-mail point of contact for the team. Community members may assist teams.

Schools may have several teams and submit more than one entry.

Web site

The web site must not contain copyright material, unless permission has been given by the owner to use the information on the web site.

All work on the web site must be created by team members.

Each web site must contain a link to the NSW Department of Education and Training's web site and a link to the school's own web site.

Entries need to be created specifically for this competition.

Web sites must conform to NSW Department of Education and Training guidelines as set out in Internet publishing: guidelines for schools (1998).

All sites should comply with W3C (disability access) usability requirements.

All web sites are to be uploaded to the competition web site and uploaded to your school web site. Instructions on managing the site, including instructions for uploading, will be provided once the registration form has been completed.

About the site

All sites must include an "about the project page" which will include information on:

  • intended audience
  • purpose of the site team
  • members of the team
  • roles and responsibilities and how these were shared
  • how the site was created
  • people contacted
  • copyright information
  • e-mail link to the school or team adviser.

Copyright

All published materials (in print or electronic form) are governed by copyright. This includes images from the Internet unless specifically designated as copyright free.

Permission is to be obtained from the owner of the material for use by the school on the [cool school] web site.

Permission must also be obtained to make links to other sites. A sample proforma has been provided.
